Unique online training resource to upskill and support specialists in the M&E sector

Project Background

MIDFIX has been a trusted supplier to building services contractors for over 45 years, based in Nottingham. Experts in onsite and offsite support for the mechanical and electrical industries, delivered through design, engineering, fabrication, and industry training. Their marketing department published a request that caught our attention:

“We need a training portal. A training portal whereby customers/clients can request training for themselves and their subcontractors. Training and quizzes are delivered through a virtual classroom. There is already a basic structure through WordPress, but it lacks many features and doesn’t fully meet our needs.”

The company conducts up to 10 training sessions per week, and the number of participants per session can be up to 40 people.

The problem was that a few weeks after the development started, the company planned extensive training with many participants that the WP solution could not handle. Thus, there was no chance of error, as the company planned a critical event and relied on a new solution.

Product Description

We carefully analyzed the requirements and built a new system from the ground up, retiring WP and providing the client with a new system with scalable architecture, expendable features, and powerful capabilities for simultaneous training with a large audience. The academy portal had the following features (but was not limited to) in development and release:

  • Virtual classrooms for online courses;
  • Script and presentation of virtual training (lesson constructor);
  • User roles: trainer, administrator, student – and corresponding permissions, access and user flow;
  • Classrooms for teachers and students with a list of upcoming classes, notes, etc.;
  • System of notifications and reminders;
  • Offline training (self-education and self-assessment);
  • Knowledge base with podcasts, instructional videos, and more, accessible to different types of users.

Project Challenges

One of the key challenges in developing the MIDFIX Academy portal was ensuring seamless access to training materials and certificates, even in offline mode. Many users, especially those working on construction sites or in field environments, might not always have a stable internet connection.

To address this, we implemented a Progressive Web Application (PWA) approach, enabling users to access previously received certificates and essential training materials offline. This solution provided:

  1. Offline Accessibility – Users can download their certificates and key documents for viewing without an internet connection.
  2. Improved User Experience – The portal functions smoothly across devices, adapting to various screen sizes and connectivity conditions.
  3. Enhanced Performance – Faster loading times and better responsiveness, even in low-bandwidth environments.
  4. Automatic Sync – The system updates data and synchronizes progress once the connection is restored.

By integrating PWA technology, we ensured that MIDFIX Academy users could always access their learning materials and certifications, regardless of location or internet availability. This feature significantly enhanced the portal’s usability and reliability, making training more accessible and efficient.

Value provided

With Corpsoft Solutions’ development team support and hard work, the client company could launch its big event, successfully conduct a session, and digitize its learning processes. Feedback speaks for itself.

We continue to work on expanding and creating additional features based on customer vision, growing business needs, and feedback from their customers.
